Fishing

Montana’s Flathead Valley is the place to catch your “perfect fish.”  Record-sized lake trout, rainbow trout, large mouth bass and other fish species are found in the many lakes and rivers and provide the serious angler with days of enjoyment.

The Montana Adventure Company, located in the lobby of Grouse Mountain Lodge, can arrange half-day and full-day guided trips that include all equipment for both lake fishing and fly fishing.

The Whitefish area is home to over 1,500 lakes in a 50-mile radius, including the 3,350-acre Whitefish Lake, as well as Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.  The North Fork and main stem of the Flathead River are listed as blue-ribbon trout rivers.

Stream fishing is open the third Saturday in May through November 30.  Some streams have extended whitefish and catch-and-release fishing for trout from December through the third Saturday in May.  Lake fishing is open the entire year, with some exceptions, which makes for great winter ice fishing.
